- Slow Down! In areas with a large deer population, or where there are deer warning signs, you need to reduce your speed.
- If you travel during the early morning or in the evening, you have a greater chance of spotting deer. Deer normally move during these times in search of food. Please reduce your speed so that you are able to pay attention.
- Never assume that you are free of deer in certain areas such as residential or areas that have fencing up along the highway. The residential area that you are living in could have been a forest at one time. Deer can be confused by the change in their habitat, and be forced to cross streets in search of food. As far as fences, deer have been know to be able to jump fences as high as 6 feet!
- Watch for eyes reflecting in your headlights! Try to look as far down the road as you can and look along the roadside also. The sooner you can see a deer on or approaching the road, the better your chances of avoiding a crash.
